Today's international cutie is from Kuwait, a tiny little emirate in the Persian gulf where the ladies can't vote! We think Kuwait sucks on women's rights but they do have luxury shopping and hot guys so it's not a total loss. You all will remember Kuwait as the country Saddam Hussein invaded setting off the first Gulf War where the first President Bush invaded to restore democracy to Kuwait, which is funny since it's a totalitarian monarchy!!!! But oh what MM wouldn't give to trade in the current numbskull Bush for the old one even if the old Mrs. Bush is douche-bag! But let's focus on the hotness of this Kuwaiti cutie!
I don't know what Papermag is all about, and looking at this little piece, I'm too scared to find out. Barring the fact that almost every titbit of information this guy gives about Kuwait is either outdated or an outright lie, the model doesn't even LOOK Kuwaiti. Well, I subscribed to Paper magazine after reading a report about it.. that it's the next big thing..
I received the first two issues and I thought that it's worthless.. and cancelled my subscription..
but the fact is that it's gaining reputation among the people who fall between 20-30 Y/O in the states.. and after reading your post I went to my old magazines rack and grabbed the 2 issues and started reading them again.. I still think they are bad, and that if they're trying to capture that segment of readers they should get their facts straight..

I just run across this stuff about Kuwait whenever I'm bored and browsing the web. And yeah, I accept that the writer has no idea what he's talking about, but you'd think he'd be savvy enough to stick to the truth :)

I can't place it exactly, bs like most Kuwaities, I can spot another Kuwaiti a mile away. Kuwaities have a certain 'look' that differentiates them from other Arabs and this guy doesn't have it. He doesn't even look khaleeji.
Maybe it's the nose? He doesn't have the type of nose I assosciate with most Kuwaiti guys. I don't know - something about this guy doesn't feel right. Like I said in my other comment, I think he might be half-Kuwaiti at best.

I agree with the writer when he says that Kuwait is a totalitarian monarchy. To refute it would be just naive.
He does look familiar. Thanks to Kthekuwaiti I know who he reminds me of now. It has to do with the Lois & Clark show, but not Dean Cain (a.k.a. Superman), he looks like the geeky photographer Jimmy Olsen.

I'm the one who posted this kuwaiti cutie on my blog and I welcome all of you to correct my facts. can women vote? I'm told they'll be given the right to vote in 2007. if I'm wrong I'm happy to be corrected. am I wrong to say kuwait has a bad record on women's rights? was kuwait a democracy when it was invaded by iraq?
I certainly don't judge kuwaitis by their government and what I consider their poor record on women's rights just as I hope others don't judge americans by our shitty government and our poor record on all sorts of things.

The only way that guy could possibly be Kuwaiti is if he is the product of a Western/Kuwaiti marriage. I also used to know a couple US kids whose mom's remarried Kuwaiti men, and they decided that they were now Kuwaiti ...although they were not. They just suddenly chose to now call themselves as such and tell everyone that they were. There are a quite a few people like this. You never know I guess...
But the bottom line is that I sincerely doubt this guy is a bona fide Kuwaiti, even in the "half breed" sense. It's probably a case of a blogger "i-rag3i3 3ala kayfa"
Mr. Mickey: Just because someone lives in Kuwait or has for a long time, doesn't make him a Kuwaiti in the native sense... Kuwait's total population is made up of more expatriates working and living here than Kuwaiti citizens. So, that guy may perhaps be messing with you a bit, knowing you wouldn't know how the lines are drawn...native Kuwaities can tell if someone also is or isn't, the country is like a tiny village, and "Kuwaiti-ness" usually sticks out very clearly.

eclectic If Mr.Mickey was giving an educated opinion about the state of Kuwait's govt after having done some research (which is what you're doing here), I'd welcome a debate. But from what I can tell, Mr.Micky has been misinformed, and didn't bother to check his facts before posting. It's obvious he's net savvy, and there are plenty of valid sources out there, so he has no excuse - it's just a case of mental laziness. Also, this is a blog related to a print medium (from what I understand, I could be wrong about this), so he probably has a large audience - which he has a responsibility towards whether he realizes that or not. It's common sense.
I understand Mr.Mickey's main message in his post is "Hey! This guy is cute and he's from Kuwait!" and nothing more. If he stuck to that and padded the rest of the post with either information about the main subject (the cute 'Kuwaiti' guy), or the attractiveness of Kuwaiti people instead of outdated/untrue highly charged politics (which have nothing to do with the subject of the post) - he might have avoided being the subject of my derision.

Mr Mickey First of all, I want to commend you for sticking up for yourself and being open to criticism. It's a testament to your character, and I appreciate it.
Second, I realize now that I should've probably just emailed you or left you a comment on that post instead of linking to it and going on a rant. My actions seem pretty underhanded and I apologize for that - my only excuse is that I didn't think someone who would put up that post would listen to what I have to say and that I'm somewhat hotheaded.
Right, now for the corrections: Kuwaiti women were grant the right to vote (and run for legislative office) in May 2005. The elections that will allow them to do so will not begin until 2007. Don't take my word for it, though (this is what got you in this pickle in the first place), do your research :)
I'm also glad you're here to deal with our debate on whether this fella is Kuwaiti or not. I'm a Kuwaiti in the US, I've been living in California for 5 years now; it doesn't make me Californian. I'm surprised the guy was brave enough to have his pic posted, but would shy away from something as simple as giving his name - which would settle the debate immediately.
Tribalims and classicim are major issues in Kuwait - it's almost impossible for a non-citizen to be granted citizenship in the country since citizenship grants benefits and oppertunities that are rarely seen in other countries (such as the US). A lot of Kuwaities guard their identity very jealously (whether they should or not is another matter entirely) so having someone saying "I am Kuwaiti" can be a political statement in and of itself. Trust me, books can be written about this.

msbaker I guess we won't know unless Mr.Mickey decides to divulge more information about the subject of his post. I'm not twisting his arm, if the fella in the pic wishes to remain unnamed then that's his perogative. Right now, I'm just skeptical of anything Mr.Mickey (or his sources) would claim about whether the fella is Kuwaiti or not.
MrMickey I forgot to add that Kuwait is a Constitutional Monarchy - thought I believe eclectic will not agree with me on that one. Whether the government is corrupt enough to be given another label or not is an issue that shouldn't be taken lightly. So yeah, if you want to stick to your guns about Kuwait being totalitarian monarchy, then back up your claim with evidence. If you're just going for the 'official' label of what constitutes the Kuwaiti government - then constitutional monarchy is the term you're looking for.
I can go on a whole spiel about the term 'democracy' being applied to America, but I'll stop here for now.

So the guy says he's Kuwaiti. I agree with the people who said that he's probably a cocktail/mixed breed and/or he may have lived in K-town for his entire life (doesn't make him Kuwaiti though). Dr.Lost Fair enough - after some of the commentors reminded me that not all Kuwaities 'look' Kuwaiti, I won't disagree with you. I've been told I look spanish, mexican, and italian, but every Kuwaiti who saw me immediately knew I was Kuwaiti (before I said anything).
