Sike!
I was browsing around for practical joke ideas for Halloween when I stumbled across this little gem of a site: The Top Worst April Fool's Day Hoaxes Ever. According to this site, here's the worst April fool's hoax of all time:

Why do I have a sneaking suspicion that the Iraqi Information Minister was probably in on it as well? Not to be outdone, the Iraqi Ambassador to Russia also managed to get a spot on the list (just scroll down to the bottom of the page). Them old Iraqi officials are a funny lot.

#1: Hijinks of Hussein and Son
Saddam Hussein and his sons may have been ruthless, power-hungry dictators, but that didn't stop them from trying to give the people of Iraq a good chuckle every April Fool's Day. On April 1, 1998 the Babil newspaper, owned by Hussein's son Uday, informed its readers that President Clinton had decided to lift sanctions against Iraq, only to admit later that it was just joking. One can imagine the knee-slapping guffaws when readers realized how they'd been taken for a ride. The laughs continued in 1999 when Uday mischeviously announced that the monthly food rations would be supplemented to include bananas, Pepsi, and chocolate. Again, just a joke. At this point, the Husseins appear to have run out of material, because in 2000 they recycled the sanction-lifting gag, and in 2001 trotted out the ration-supplement crowd-pleaser one more time. The merciless quality with which the same joke was repeated year after year had an almost surreal quality to it. In fact, it almost makes one sympathize with Saudi Arabia's chief cleric, the Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Al al-Sheikh, who in 2001 decreed that the celebration of April Fool's Day should be banned altogether. It's not known if the Sheikh had his neighbor's hijinks in mind when he issued the ban.Why do I have a sneaking suspicion that the Iraqi Information Minister was probably in on it as well? Not to be outdone, the Iraqi Ambassador to Russia also managed to get a spot on the list (just scroll down to the bottom of the page). Them old Iraqi officials are a funny lot.

I laughed at that. Does that make me a bad person? :)
Hahahaha!
Entertaining blog :D
Thank you for that...
Will be back for more ;)
Gigi, forebodingly (?)
I laughed at it too and i don;'t think it makes us bad people! :P
Altho, those pranks do kind of feel like the dictators equivalent to pulling ur sweethearts pigtails in the playground! :P
lol good 1
Yeah... it actually made me a little sick to my stomach. :-(
william heh, no :)
Gigi Thanks, and come back anytime :)
krispie Eh..it's funny in a tragic way. No reason not to laugh :)
Although I think Uday probably did more than pull a girl's pigtail in the playground. The man is scary.
badoor :)
Uknown That's a valid reaction too. There's no question that they were depraved men, this is just a funny example of how low their depravity goes. Crazy scary shit.
mennek lellah!
u brought up some real bitter memories to me.. althu many of the q8y people i know do have hard feelings for the former iraqi system (and unfortunately iraqi people, too), nevertheless it is sad.
i was a fan of M.S.S.. this guy did have the charisma.. (i don't want to compare him to P.J. Göbbles still) hmm, i think i still have a jazeera clip somewhere where he explains the meaning of "el 3elooj"
dang.. bitter memories!
This is the Champions of All Arabs. The Hero Of Qadisyah. The Protector of the Eastern Gate. Now he bad? You people probably aren't old enough to remember any of this crap. Not that I am, but I can sound like i was around can't I? Get a grip people
thats sick cruel and mean!!!
why?! why why why why?!
Dear McArabian,
April Fools jokes are fun... but these are just beyond funny... they are sick. Just How much more sadistic can you get?
I really never understood how anybody can get any pleasure in the sufferings of others. It's like they have no guilt or remorse...
..In any case, thanks for the info..
Truly,
Misguided
moe Although your opinion is valid, I'm not touching that comment with a ten foot stick :)
q8ty I'm not sure who you're referring to when you say 'you people', so I'm not touching that comment with a ten foot stick either. Good day, sir.
a3sab That's Saddam in a nutshell for ya.
swair See a3sab's comment, that's you're answer right there.
Dear Misguided
I've always wondered myself exactly what kind of brain chemistry one needs to have in order to be as sadistic as Saddam and his kids.
But here's another sick thing for you to condemn: while I agree with the comments that exhibited shock by how sick this trick is - reading about it still cracked me up for some reason. I guess it's funny because the sons are dead and the main sicko will get his comeuppance (from the same people he mistreated) pretty soon.
Contrarily,
McArabian
Well when you have a gun to your head, it doesn't matter whether what is told to you is plausible or not.
McAye
oopsy daisy! i thought opinions are always valid.. thanks for declaring mine as valid ;P
just one provocative question.. many claim that one should not judge others, but at the same time they do judge people like saddam, bush, benedict XVI,.. etc.. why? is it because they crossed a certain line or is it because their deeds affect several people?
imho, people will always judge eachother, so one's best bet is to do what one wants as long as one still could.. i wouldn't blame any tyrant for doing what they did, but if i could nail one down, i wouldn't take so much time to finish'em off.. democracy is -after marx- just another opium.
A brief (post-mortem) message to Uday and Qusay: Who's laughin' now bitches?!!
-- Sigh --
That was in poor taste. One must respect the dead afterall...
(Ummmm... Yeah... Whatever...)
And to show my sensitive side...
Here's a little Haiku:
April Fool's gone bad
Nothing says hilarity
Like crushing a dream...
Typical of such bastards!(ok...i guess I broke my fast just now)
equalizer Good point.
moe Fair enough, let me rephrase that: "Although your opinion is welcome, I'm not touching that comment with a ten foot pole."
Miss Gigi has been kind enough to point out to me that yes, I do judge people in weird way, so I can't disagree with you on this judgement thing. However, I will add this: Judging people and condemning them are two different things. If I judge someone to be unacceptable, I will remove myself from their presence - if I condemn someone, I want them removed from presence (and reality if applicable). The only time I will condemn someone is if they hurt an innocent. I believe all of the people in your list fall under that category.
amunki Allow me to change the last word in that message: Who's laughing now beoootch??!!
I'm glad my post was an inspiration to a great haiku :)
jazz I'm sorry, man. Um..am I going to go to hell for making you lose your fast?
Big Mac..Stick or pole? You can't have your cake and eat it too! I'll take the pole...moe can have the stick! (moe teching dis wan steak in q8ty for the half khadama- half q8ty out there). Yes, we are an equal opportunity employer!
Y'all... it was just a joke, why the sensitivity?
I thought they were all hilarious, but the one that cracked me up was the one about the report. What a schmuck!
walah 9ij ma 3indhom salfaaa! the jerks had to get a laugh at the expense of the poor people! malaat 3alyhom!
God, were they cold. Frightening. They gave a new dimension to the concept of sadism.
I am glad they are gone.
:(
MsB

jan6a Yeah, you know - that old 80's word that means you were going to give someone something but then take it back:
"Here, have some icecream. Sike!"
eeeee !! okay i gerrit now !
Mac...Is that an innovative way of telling me to shut up? For some reason, the implications are deep!
My feeling of "offence" is lingering!
jan6a :)
q8tyshareef Good to know. And good to know you're taking care of you're eating well.
