A Kuwaiti youth and two girls were referred to the concerned authorities for interrogation for fighting on the Gulf Street, says Al-Rai Al-Aam.According to sources the girls claimed the youth threw a water bottle at them besides making some obscene gestures while they were walking on the road. However, the youth denied the accusation saying "the girls were smoking and threw a lighted cigarette on my car prompting me to quarrel with them."
I suppose that's one way to deal with sexual harassment. Dear concerned youth: throwing a water bottle at girls who know how to fight back is never usually a good idea, yours truly, McArabian.

Hahah, I'm glad the girls reported the idiot. Serves those would-be-assailants right! & I find it hard to believe that a girl smoking a cigarette (which is already a glorious taboo) would seek attention by throwing it at some guy's car! Either she would be on crack, or she genuinely enjoys the pangs of harassment.
Unfortunately, whenever I'm harassed in public I just look the other way and ignore the scene, (which leaves me feeling violated and helpless). But I know that reacting will only escalate the situation; It is a lose-lose type of thing.
I think the girls were thirsty and that is why the guy threw the watter bottle at them!

CD I'm in agreement with you. I've never seen any girls be aggressive and violent if they wanted to initiate advances. Usually it just takes a smile, sometimes a look is enough. So I'm going to go with laying the guilt on the fella.
There really ought to be classes that teach people how to deal with harassment. I know of a couple of classes here in California. Hmmm..a see a new project in my future.

ok some of us just walk off with sad memories because of stupid boys, my friend was here for a visit a couple of years ago, we went to Mc Donald's drive through, my window was down as prepared for the order it's only normal, there were 3 guys walking along us as the line was slow due to za7ma, since we weren't paying attention for them the decided the best way of revenge is to throw their cokes at my car, apart from outside also the inside got soked with their drinks, the more upsetting part was that it happened infront of many other guys and no one thought we should stand up for our sisters, it left a bit of hate in me for our boys.

LOL Sorry but the level of journalism in Kuwait is very close to that of tabloids. We never know what really happened. Both arguments are plausible I guess, assuming the whole story is true. Even if it wasn't true, would a non-existant boy object to it?

sam Kuwait society being in the sad state of affairs it is in, when it comes to communication between strangers of the opposite sex (especially among the young'uns), that communication usually manifests in some form of sexual harassment.
As kids I remember we used to tease boys and were teased by boys endlessly until we grew up a little and started flirting with them, and then we grew up some more and started judging other youngers' behaviour... I guess it's tough when you can't really tease or flirt in the open, only judge. We don't know who is right or wrong here, but it feels good to twist the story this way or the other, playing Devil's advocate. It's fortunate that there were just a water bottle and a cigarette butt on the car (if any). Harrassment can turn nasty if it's the only way people can express themselves...

Do any of these dumb guys ever succeed with girls? I have never found a girl who doesn't think they are anything but stupid. In Italy, men quietly praise a girl's beauty as they pass. My wife will attest to the power of that. Moral, don't let your wife go to Italy alone. Young Kuwaiti men, time to grow up.

It's weird how something as stupid as pulling a girls hair can be traumatizing to young kuwaiti girls when done by a strange boy at a mall because neither girl nor boy know anything about dealing with the opposite sex on a social level. I'm completely against segregation in public schools for that reason alone. It's unrealistic and unnatural to seperate men and women at all times.

boojam When guys start getting desperate, even negative attention will do. I've been to Italy, they men kept calling me like you would call a cat. It cracked me up :) I think the best praises I've heard came from Lebanese men. Always suave, and they know exactly what to say to make me blush and grin at the same time. Kuwaiti men need to pick up a trick or two from them ;)
